Dear Dhamma friends, supporters and sponsors,

Huong Tu Foundation has recently completed the final flood relief trip for the Central Region at Tra Van Commune, Tra Leng, Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province and various areas in Quang Ngai – Vietnam, led by Sister Thich Nu Minh Nhu along with a group of Buddhist volunteers and Huong Tu Vietnam members.

On this last trip to these remote areas, reciting Buddha’s blessing was the only thing that the group could do when crossing the unstable roads and landslides until they were able to finally reach the people. All emotions overflowed when they witnessed the devastating and miserable conditions of the people in these areas. The volunteers were still very much overwhelmed when they recounted their journey in tears. Perhaps this is going to be an unforgettable memory for everyone on this trip.

With all of the donations from our generous supporters and sponsors, Huong Tu Foundation was able to help many unfortunate families and poor households with homes that were buried in mud, swept away in the flood, destroyed, suffered casualties, etc. All volunteers in the group were self-sufficient with their own travel and meal expenses on this trip.

Each affected family received 500,000 VND to 1 million VND depending on their circumstances.

One family whose home was completely buried was aided with a rental home and hairdressing tools to continue their livelihood – 22 million VND.

Two families with their homes completely destroyed were aided with 20 million VND to construct a new home.

Children at a boarding school in Tra Leng were gifted 15 million VND for nutritious breakfasts instead of having instant noodles every morning. Because they are far from home, they have to stay at the school and can only go home once every two weeks.

Tra Van High School was gifted 10 million VND to build a cafeteria for all students.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Even though we understand there are still many more unfortunate lives that need our help, we are limited in our capabilities. Therefore, Huong Tu Foundation is now officially closing the 2020 Central Region Flood Relief Campaign.

In the process of distributing gifts to support those affected by the flood, there could be unintended oversights that were unavoidable. We hope for your kind forgiveness and we do very much appreciate your understanding.

We wish all of you and your family a new year full of peace, happiness and success.
